Contemporary Art Glass

This is an integral part of glassmaking because if a hot object is allowed to cool too quickly, it will be highly strained by the time it reaches room temperature; indeed, it may break as it cools. By building up multiple layers of different oxides, a wide range of reflected and transmitted colors are produced. Glassed container is most often cut by the "scratch and break" method, but can also be cut in a torch flame, and with an abrasive saw blade.
